Masters of Fashion

Three fashion grad students living out their last semester in style

As I was browsing CRFashionBook.com I noticed the image with the Van Cleef & Arpels Dragonfly clip propped onto the model’s lips seemed especially familiar. Then the potential source of inspiration for the image clicked - Bee on Lips! I remembered the Irving Penn image from the HBO Documentary, In Vogue: The Editor’s Eye. As I googled to confirm the image, I discovered via Fashionista.com (by way of one of my favorite blogs, Part Nouveau) that Interview Magazine Russia also may have had a similar source of inspiration for their cover girl Lana Del Rey. Little bit of Fashion History - you’re welcome.

"you got a lot of love" is now available for the Wheeler Brothers’ Gold Boots Glitter Collection.  It’s the perfectly sweet bow tie for these summer days when all you want to hear is Nolan and his banjo.
Make sure you check out the Wheeler Brothers’ tour schedule so you can catch them while they roam around the US.

“gold boots glitter” inspired by the Wheeler Brothers

To keep a comfortable life for others, there are those who risk everything to keep us safe.  While some may never see the harsher points of life, loved ones of those, who have ventured to protect, know to cherish every bright moment in their day.

“gold boots glitter” exemplifies the hope of returning home safely into a loved one’s arms.  This gold metallic paisley jacquard glimmers with true American spirit and embodies the brightness in the patience of love.

“So won’t you wait for me, to someday see what we might finally be.  Between winter’s end and next year’s summer smile.”

“under a bridge” inspired by the Wheeler Brothers

When hard times are upon, trouble can follow, leaving one alone and bare.  Running from the past into the abyss, surrounded by the cold.  However, the bottom is when the despair becomes passion and weakness becomes strength.

“under a bridge”, inspired by the Wheeler Brothers, is for the rough edged man looking towards brighter days.  His past has molded him to become the strength he is today.  The royal motif represents a solid platform for his evolution.  While his days may have been treacherous, he builds more each day.

“I lost my home to all this trouble I’m in.  Under a bridge, shaking in the wind.”

Interpreting Kalamkari, a short film produced for the Handloom Export Promotion Council showcases the traditional textile from the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.

Hailing from Andhra Pradesh, I grew up surrounded by a lot of Kalamkari products and have always been obsessed with the textile. There is something about a piece of handmade clothing that makes me appreciate it more than the average piece of fast fashion. I remain in awe of these artisans who invest so much effort and love into each piece of art they create. As much as I love owning trendy pieces, I love garments that tell a story and manage to create an emotional connection.

Happy Weekending!

~ Archana

Excitement and anticipation have brought me back from the thesis doldrums. Why am I so excited you ask? Besides graduation nearing, I am excited because I got the call today that I will be a Research Intern at VOGUE this summer!

Words cannot describe…

Also, today my Costume History class took a field trip to see the “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Thoroughly pleased.

The juxtaposition of both designers was unflawed, and the headpieces by Guido Palau are perfection – the headpieces were a discreet, yet meaningful part of the conversation. The blinking digital images lurking in the background I could have done without, however.

For the day trip I wore my camel-colored slacks by The Limited, my Bebe white denim blazer over my embroidered Christian Dior shirt and my comfy shoes from Avenue with the tribal print bows on the top.

Today was a good day.

- Mikahila

Alright, so we’ve been slacking, and I don’t know what excuses Archana and Mikahila have, but I’m going to blame mine on the fact I sprained my ankle a few weeks ago.  Now, I still have been dressing myself, however something about an Ace bandage around my ankle just makes any outfit look slightly pathetic.

However, I’ve now graduated to a slimmer ankle brace and while it looks like a sock, it’s still better than the bulky thing I was wearing before.  Last night, I ventured out to Wilmington’s World Cafe Live to see Bronze Radio Return, an amazing band I first saw in Philly last December when they were opening for the Wheeler Brothers.  If you think Mumford & Sons are missing harmonica, banjo, and organ, you will LOVE Bronze Radio Return.  Seriously, they’re on tour right now, so if you can catch their live show I would HIGHLY recommend it.  This venue was a little quieter than I’m used to, but Bronze Radio still put on an amazing show.

Last night I wore a floral printed Calvin Klein blouse I recently purchased off of Hautelook, Uniqlo jeggings, a black horn necklace, and my orange loafers from ASOS.   Oh, and I’m not wearing a sock on just one foot, that’s my ankle brace :/

So, that’s all for now, but I promise more posts soon (even though it just might be me).
